What's VMS

What’s VMS?

80% of women will experience hot flashes and night sweats due to menopause. Yet, no one was talking about it—until now. For decades, women have been made to feel as though these two most common symptoms of menopause were something to be ashamed of, to grin and bear silently, or to dismiss altogether as just ‘in their head.’ But thanks to advances in science, these internal infernos have been legitimized as a medical condition and given a name. Vasomotor Symptoms or VMS for short.

 So, WTF is VMS?
A real, medical, put-a-face-to-the-fire-you’re-feeling name for hot flashes and night sweats due to menopause. And, now that these fiery little f%^*ers have a name, our goal was clear: Destigmatize. Educate. And start a conversation that should’ve started years, decades, hell—probably centuries ago.

So, our spokeswoman, better known as “The Heat on The Street”— a real menopausal woman impacted by VMS—hit the streets to ask people one simple question…what’s VMS? The result? An honest, disarming, open conversation comprised mostly of people who are heated about being overheated.

Menopause at the Super Bowl?!

Women make up half the viewership of the Super Bowl. So, we decided to drop the “M” word for the first time EVER on the largest TV audience we could think of. We teased the spot on social leading up the Big Game, engaged audiences online, and got everybody at home asking, “What’s VMS?”

Check out how the rest of the campaign unfolded:

We asked women to open up about their experience with VMS and shared their stories in online communities.
